WagerCaddie — Player Guide

WagerCaddie is a calculator for your league's golf bets — it tracks who's betting whom, computes who wins and loses, and tells you what's owed.

No money actually moves through the app. Settling up still happens between you and the other players, the same way it always has — WagerCaddie just does the math and keeps score.

Getting In

Your league admin will give you a join code. Enter it once on your device and you're in — you won't need to enter it again unless you switch leagues or a device.

Placing a Bet Each Round

Before a round starts, open the Bet tab and pick one of two roles:

🎡 Wheel

The "Wheel" is a two-person team that takes on all comers. If you and a partner want to be the Wheel for the day, pick your names and you're set — every Challenger who bets that day will be betting against you specifically.

A Wheel team can optionally have a limit on how many challenger bets it will accept (set by whoever forms the Wheel, or changed later by your admin). If a Wheel is full, you'll see that clearly before you try to bet against it, and the app won't let a bet through that would push it over the limit.

How the limit is enforced, exactly

If you submit several challenger bets at once and the Wheel only has capacity for some of them, none of them go through — it's all-or-nothing rather than accepting the ones that fit and rejecting the rest. Reduce how many partners you're picking to fit within what's left and resubmit. This is also checked atomically on the server, so two people racing to grab the last open spot on a Wheel can't both succeed.

⚔️ Challenger

Pick your own name, then pick one or more players to team up with — each partner you pick creates a separate bet against the Wheel team. If your league has more than one Wheel out on a given day, you'll pick which Wheel you're challenging first.

A few rules the app enforces automatically:

Why a duplicate Wheel team is rejected but a duplicate challenger bet isn't

These two situations look similar but are handled differently on purpose. Trying to form a Wheel with the same two people as an existing Wheel that day is rejected outright with an error — there's no legitimate reason for the same pair to be the Wheel twice. A duplicate challenger pairing (you and a partner already have a bet against a given Wheel) is instead silently dropped from your batch without an error, so that one repeated pick doesn't block the rest of the bets you're submitting in the same go.

Not betting today?

Use the Opt Out option instead of just ignoring the screen. Opting out removes you from being pickable by anyone else, and clears any bets you'd already been entered into for that role. You can still opt back in and bet normally any time before betting closes for the day.

Understanding Your Wager

Every league configures its own wager amounts and format — check the banner at the top of the Bet/Results screen, which always shows your league's actual current format and dollar amounts (for example, a "2 Ball Nassau $X F/B" banner, or with a separate Long amount added). Two things worth knowing regardless of your league's specific numbers:

If your league plays Quota instead of Best Ball/2 Ball

Quota scores every hole on points instead of strokes — you earn points based on your score relative to that hole's par (a standard table: bogey, par, birdie, eagle all earn different amounts), and what actually matters is whether you're above or below your personal target, not your raw point total. The Wheel and Challenger structure works exactly the same as any other format — you're still teaming up and betting Front/Back/Long the same way — it's just the underlying scoring that's different. One blow-up hole costs you the same either way in Quota, unlike stroke play where every extra shot adds up.

Your personal target gets easier the higher your handicap is, and points are earned from your actual (gross) score — matching how GolfGenius's own Quota tournaments score it. If your league has a Max Handicap set (see above — it's shared with every other format, not Quota-specific), your target uses the capped number instead of your real handicap.

Your admin sets the point values for each score type and the handicap percentage used in the target formula.

If your league plays Match Play instead of Best Ball/2 Ball

Match Play scores by hole, not by total strokes — every hole is its own mini-contest (whoever's team has the lower best-ball score wins that hole), and what matters is how many holes you're up or down, not your overall stroke total. A big blow-up hole only ever costs you that one hole, never more — unlike stroke play, where extra shots keep adding up.

Results use standard match play notation: "2 UP" means leading by 2 holes with holes still to play; "3&2" means the match ended early because one side won by more holes than were left to play (3 up with 2 to go). Front, Back, and Long are each their own separate match — Long isn't just Front and Back added together, it's a full fresh 18-hole match of its own, so it can be decided earlier or later than the Front/Back results.

Check the Match Play Scoreboard on the Results screen for a live, Ryder-Cup-style view of every match happening that day — one card per matchup with a leaning bar for Front, Back, and Long.

⚡ 2-Down Bets

The 2-Down tab is a separate, more flexible way to set up a match — not tied to the daily Wheel/Challenger structure at all, and not limited to 2-vs-2. Use it for a side match you and a group want to set up yourselves.

Tap + New 2-Down Bet and set:

Once created, a 2-Down bet shows up and scores live the same way any other bet does — hole-by-hole detail included.

Straight Up vs. Handicap — why the Pops/Strokes section changes

What you can do in the Pops/Strokes section depends on the Handicap choice above it:

  • Straight Up (no handicap): you manually assign pop strokes to specific players on specific holes yourself — full control, nothing calculated for you.
  • 100% or 80% handicap: strokes are calculated automatically from each player's handicap instead, and the section becomes "Exclude Holes" — you can only remove specific holes from getting a stroke (commonly the 9th and 18th, so nobody gets a stroke on a finishing hole), not hand-pick who gets what. Excluded strokes shift to the next-hardest eligible hole rather than disappearing.
How Auto-Press actually decides when to press

The app checks the running score after every hole, not just at the end of the nine. The moment a team falls behind by your chosen threshold (1-down or 2-down) on whichever bet is currently active, a new press automatically starts on the very next hole and covers the rest of that nine. A press can itself get pressed again if the deficit reaches the threshold a second time — presses can stack more than once in a single nine if the match swings hard enough. Each press settles independently for the holes it actually covers.

⛳ Indie Bets

The Indie tab is for anything that doesn't fit the structured formats above — a closest-to-pin, a random side match, a one-off bet your group wants tracked without setting up a formal Wheel or 2-Down match. Enter each involved player's win or loss amount and an optional note.

Entries must net to exactly $0 before you can submit — the app won't let a group of entries through that would create or lose money that isn't actually changing hands between the players involved.

Checking Scores and Results

The Results tab shows live scores as they come in from GolfGenius (tap "Refresh Scores" to pull the latest), a leaderboard, and — once your round is finalized — the final settled amount for every bet. The Bet Tracker on that same screen shows today's bets in progress even before the round is done.

If your league plays Skins, there's a dedicated Skins tab showing who's won what.

Settling Up

The Settle tab combines everything from the day — Wheel/Challenger, 2-Down, Skins, and Indie — into what everyone actually owes and is owed, already simplified into the smallest number of actual payments needed (so if three people all owe each other different amounts, it works out who should actually pay whom, rather than listing every individual bet as a separate payment). Mark a payment as settled once you've actually squared up with that person — this is for your league's own bookkeeping and doesn't move any real money itself.

Season Totals

The Season view shows running totals across every round of the year, including which round you played, whether you were on the Wheel that day, and who you were matched against — not just a single cumulative number.

Player Stats & Trends

Next to the Season Standings button on the Results screen is a Player Stats & Trends button — fun, league-wide numbers pulled from your whole season so far: who's leading in Wheel/Skins/Indie earnings, the biggest rivalry (the most lopsided head-to-head record between two players), best win percentage, and who's been in the most matchups overall. It needs a few rounds of season history to show anything — a brand-new league won't have much here yet.

Common Questions

I made a mistake on my bet — can I fix it?

Yes, as long as betting hasn't closed for the day (finalized). You can remove your own bet and re-enter it, or ask your admin — they can adjust or delete bets on your behalf any time before the round is locked.

What if I don't see anyone I want to bet against, or all the Wheels are full?

Talk to whoever's running the round that day — Wheel limits and how many Wheels form are decided by the players and admin, not fixed by the app.

The app says there's an update available — should I tap it?

Yes, go ahead. It won't lose any of your entered bets; it just refreshes the app to the latest version.
